Have ever had a “Low Disk Space” message pop up on your computer? This informative, yet annoying, message provides a clean up tool that never really works because it tries to clean up files in temp folders and your recycle bin. The problem is that the files that really need to be deleted are not in those places. You usually have to manually hunt down the large files in the hundreds of folders that you may have on your hard drive…it can be a nightmare!
Well never fear, a program called, TreeSize Free can quickly show you what is taking up all your hard drive space. TreeSize Free is a tool that will show you the size of all your folders and the size of each item in that folder. The awesomeness of this tool makes you wonder why Microsoft did not include this feature in Windows Explorer.
TreeSize Free is very small and installs quickly. Once installed you will be able to select the letter of the hard drive that you want to scan and what unit of measurement (KB, MB or GB) you want it to output. The scan may take a while depending on how much data you have so have some patience:) When it is done you will be able to see each folder’s size. Also you can click the arrows next to each folder to see it’s contents and each file’s size.
